I think it was early January, I was just waiting in line at the bakery next door, trying so very hard not to forget what it was I was sent there to get, when my phone rang, unknown number.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Sebastian, this is [unintelligible] from the [incomprehensible]."
"Aha."
"We want to do a grade school reunion. Do you want to come."
"Uhm, yeah, of course."
"Do you remember who I am?"
"Uhm, yeah, of course."
"Good. We'll send you an invitation."
I stare into blank space for a while, until the baker-lady interrupts me, asking what I want to have. I answer with staring some more, trying to sort out my thoughts. I take a few Nussecken.
A month later, I had enough time to get excited about the reunion. But I didn't, and I wasn't. In my mind, I had lost or stayed in contact with my classmates for a reason. So expectations were low, which was probably a good thing.
It was awesome. The atmosphere was one of the best I had experienced in a long time. Everybody got along instantly, there was no forced feeling about it at all! Everyone was extremely nice. I enjoyed talking to people like Inga and Oliver, who I literally hadn't seen or heard from in 13 years!
It was fun to see how people had changed. At first I didn't recognize some, but the more we talked the more I started to remember. And although only 13 of the old class showed up, those were just the right people.
I'm looking foreward to seeing some of them again when I come to Usingen next time.
